Loads of Great News!

First things first, thanks to Joshua for making me look human again. After going w/o a haircut for six weeks in order to try to achieve that whole 1950s, slicked back, long hair look (think Zac Efron from Hairspray, or Adam Lambert doing a slow song), I realized my hair still grows UP and OUT not down. I looked like a mushroom cap. So, Joshua spent over an hour working his maj-ique (said with a French accent), and now my cropped, gay, piled Mohawk is so much cuter. I mean, grocery store clerks are, at least, no longer calling me "ma'am" when I check out.

Second, I was thrilled to be asked by Alison Jones Chaim, the director of the Wisconsin Book Festival, to be a headliner at their 8th Annual Fair to be held in Madison from October 7-11. The WI Book Festival is one of the larger book fairs in the nation, drawing over 15,000 book readers, lovers and fans to Madison's lively downtown arts and commercial district. Especially gratifying is the fact that this year's Festival theme is "Courage," and all Festival events and authors will explore the full spectrum of interpretations of this theme, ranging from topics such as civil or social courage, overcoming obstacles, bravery vs. bravado, physical courage, and consequences of courageous actions. I plan to speak on the courage it takes to go six weeks w/o a haircut (just kidding). Stay tuned for my speaking dates/venues.

Third, I kick off my book tour for AT LEAST IN THE CITY SOMEONE WOULD HEAR ME SCREAM Wednesday, June 3, at the Grand Rapids, Michigan, Public Library at 7 p.m. (http://www.grpl.org) ... and won't stop until the end of June. I hope to meet you at one of the many events scheduled in Michigan, Chicago, Milwaukee or STL. (Check out my Appearances!)

Fourth, OUT Magazine just named AT LEAST IN THE CITY one of its summer "Must Reads" in its June issue. So, I guess, you must read it.

Fifth (see, I can count), I will be posting next week all the wonderful media attention that AT LEAST IN THE CITY is generating! And by wonderful, I mean incredible. And by incredible, I mean huge. (You get where I'm going, right?) I'm blown away right now!

Sixth, Happy Memorial Day Weekend ... enjoy your BBQs, your beer, your S'mores, your picnics, your family, your friends! And please remember all those who lost their lives in service to our country!
