These are the sports teams I love:
Baseball: St. Louis Cardinals
Football: St. Louis Rams (but evolving into a Lions fan, thank you Mike Martz)
College Football: Mizzou Tigers & Northwestern Wildcats
Something is happening this year, that no Mizzou football fan thought might ever happen. They have a shot at a national championship. It's just sitting there, alone, for the taking, like a chipmunk on a log, the hawk circling overhead.
If Mizzou can beat Kansas this week, and then Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship, they will play for the national title. No doubt about it.
Mizzou!
My friends and I spent years trekking from St. Louis to Columbia, a tiger tale hanging out of our trunk, tailgating, getting drunk because it was easier to endure another thrashing wasted than sober.
This doesn't seem real. But it's what college sports is all about. It's what life is all about. Achieving your dream, no matter how unreachable it may seem.
I will eat leftover turkey this weekend, and watch Mizzou play. And I will dream, and hold on to hope.
